Tea House — A Study in Wood & Landscape
A concept project set amidst the lush green tea gardens of an Assam tea estate. The brief was to design a tea house that felt rooted in its landscape - a space that honored the tradition of tea drinking as a cultural and communal experience, while drawing its architectural language from Scandinavian and Nordic rusticity.
The exterior is defined by dark carbonized wood panels and grilles, a titanium-zinc plate roof, and black aluminium trim detailing - materials chosen for their quiet, weathered character that sits naturally within a green, open landscape. The entrance features floor-to-ceiling woodwork serving as both door and ventilation, a detail that draws from traditional Assamese architectural woodwork for wall openings. Tall trees line the approach path, shaping the spatial journey before guests even step inside.
The interior takes a more intimate turn. Floor seating with wooden furniture evokes a Japanese influence - deliberate and considered - framing tea drinking not as a transaction but as a moment of cultural togetherness. Minimalist yet layered, every wooden detail was designed to add warmth without clutter.
A concept that brings together Assamese landscape, Scandinavian restraint, and Japanese spatial philosophy - all in service of a single, simple ritual.
