Jorhat has always been a tea city. Glenroast set out to change that. The brief was more than a cafe interior - it was to create a destination with a mission: to introduce specialty coffee culture to Jorhat and build a genuine community space where people come not just for the coffee, but for the conversations, the energy, and the experience.
The project was designed from the ground up, with interior design developed alongside architectural planning across three floors. The ground floor houses Breakfast - a beloved 30-year-old Jorhat institution reinventing itself as a curated department store with a focus on organic, locally sourced, and health-conscious goods. The first floor is Glenroast itself, and the second floor a commercial kitchen opening onto an outdoor terrace with views of the heritage Club Road.
The design language is Mid Century Modern with deliberate rustic warmth - chosen not just for aesthetics, but for what it communicates. Warm tones, raw brick, natural materials, and considered lighting create an atmosphere that feels lived-in and welcoming - the kind of space that invites you to stay, open your laptop, pick up a book, or strike up a conversation with a stranger. The glass and raw brick facade gives the building an unmistakable street presence, making it an instant landmark on Club Road.
The central design challenge was balance - ensuring the rustic warmth of the cafe never compromised the functionality of a busy multi-use commercial space, and that three very different floors felt like one cohesive identity. The result is Jorhat's first cafe of its kind - a space where community, coffee, and culture finally have a home.
